How can we include nature in our decision-making process designed for only humans?
Incorporating nature into our decision-making process designed solely for humans is a crucial question. Our artistic experiment aims to explore ways to include non-human entities in decision-making. Animism, an ancient belief system, offers insights into this question. Animistic belief holds that the human body can be taken over by a ghost, spirit, god, or other entities. This belief is prevalent in Southeast Asian cultures and is still practiced today.
Can the Medium, a human body possessed by a non-human entity, be the way we communicate with nature? Mask dance is a traditional performance art that is interpreted and embodied by the performer. The mask can also possess the performer, transforming them into the Medium of a non-human entity.
Our project builds on this concept and further developed through the Posthuman Art network in 2022, exhibited online. The exploration of new ways to incorporate non-human entities into the decision-making process is crucial to our understanding of the world around us.
